Bittersweet Beginnings--Chapter 6

Tunetha sat looking out the window, lost in her thoughts. Why did her body go into a coma, she had never been afraid of conflict before?? And why did she really not want her friends and family called??

She was broken from her thoughts when she heard Gia tell the group "She's not here!'

"What do you mean she's not here, where could she have gone??" Carly demanded.

Tunetha braced herself for the worst, stood up and cleared her throat. By this time they were all in the room; Carly, Gia, Sonny, Duane, Nikolas, Chloe, Kysela, Johnny, Emily and Zander.

"I'm over here guys" she said as she walked towards them

They all looked in her direction and stared. Not one of them knowing what to say or do. "Well thats not exactly the reaction I was hoping for, but I guess it'll do"

Duane was the first one to move he walked over to her and enveloped her into a huge hug and picked her up. When he finally put her down, Tunetha winced in pain. "Are you okay baby, did I hurt you?" he asked frantic

"I'm fine, my ankle still hurts and I just landed with too much force" she explained to him as she wiped the tears that were beginning to fall from his eyes.

She looked around him and saw that Carly was also crying. She limped over to her and hugged her "shh" she whispered "quit blaming yourself, i'm fine"

"how did you know??" Carly asked as she wiped her tears away.

"its amazing what you can hear when your quiet" she smiled at Carly. One by one the others snapped back to reality and came over and hugged her.

And then just as she predicted the yelling started. They were all yelling at once, blaming the other, accusing the other of wrong doing, defending the other. Tunetha quietly slipped out of her room.

She ran into Dr. Ross and Nurse Green in the hall, on the way to her room. She looked at Dr. Ross "That's why I didn't want you to call them earlier" she pointed to her room "I'm okay now, so they are free to let go of the guilt and let the anger in."

"Where are you going??" the nurse asked her feeling bad for her

"I thought I'd find the maternity ward, and peek at the babies. I can't be in there"

"i understand honey, i understand. Come on I'll go with you" the nurse pointed her in the direction of the elevator "the maternity ward is my favorite escape from the hospital too. I always feel so bad that those poor innocent children are bieng brought into a world full of chaos and unpredictability"

Dr. Ross walked into her room, and was shocked at what he saw. There was a lot of screaming, blame bieng passed on to someone else, tears being shed and yet no one noticed that the person they were there to see was gone.

Dr. Ross shut the door and yelled "QUIET". They all turned and looked at him, shocked by his presence and behavior. "You people are pathetic, you've been sitting by Tunetha's bedside for a month waiting and willing her to wake up and the day she does you guys are in her yelling at each other. You haven't even noticed she's left. Now I'd like it very much if everyone followed me to the conference room" he opened the door

"where is she?" Chloe asked

"She went for some testing and a meeting with Gail, she should be back in a couple of hours" Dr Ross "Its important that I talk to you all about her recovery"

They all looked at each other and shrugged the shoulders. One by one they filed out of the room and followed him to a conference room at the end of the hall.

Meanwhile in the Maternity Ward

The nurse helped Tunetha get changed into scrubs and led her into the nursery.

"Are sure this okay??" she asked the nurse

"Yes, in fact I'm putting you to work. This is where I come on my break. There's a mother who's suffering from major postpartum depression and wants nothing to do with her children. It doesn't help that she was addicted to drugs and now so are her babies. All three are going through withdrawls and it helps calm them down if they are held. And I have a feeling it'll help calm you down too" the nurse smiled at her "here we are"

"They are so small" she whispered as her eyes filled with tears as she watched the baby scream. Her heart broke "how old are they??"

"6 mths" a different nurse told her as she handed Tunetha a bottle. "you came just in time for breakfast"

Tunetha reached into the crib and picked up the small infant that looked as big as some of the ones born days ago. She sat in the rocking chair and tried to feed the baby, but the little girl continued to scream. The nurses were concerned that she wouldn't be able to get the baby to eat. But then they heard it get quiet all except for Tunethas soft melodic voice singing

You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies gray. You'll never no dear how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away

They looked over to see the baby eating hungrily and Tunetha singing softly to her. "What's her name??"

"she doesn't have one" the nurse told her

"but everyone has a name" she looked at the baby closely "I think I'll call you Cheyanna. That can be your name until your mommy picks one for you.

The nurses watched as the two bonded. Tunetha talked to her and Cheyanna giggled and cooed as if she was the most interesting person in the world. Nurse Green smiled, happy that if even it was only for a little while, Tunetha was happy
