Lois, Micheal and Johnny walked into the suite, they had just gotten out of church. They were all excited about thier new church home.
''Guys they still aren't back'' Johnny noticed
''Do you think they are still in church??'' Lois asked
''Who knows, all I know is Mom is gonna be mad if we don't call soon'' Micheal said
''I dunno about calling home without the 3 of them you heard what they said Micheal'' Lois pointed out
An hour later Marcus, Cheyanna and Carly walked in talking and laughing only to find thier roommates sitting on the couch looking mad.
''Ya'll are back already??'' Marcus asked
''Bad service??'' Cheyanna questioned
''Where have ya'll been??'' Lois asked ignoring both of thier questions.
''Church'' Carly answered
''You left at 645 this morning'' Micheal pointed out
''Yes we did, Father time. Bible study was at 7:15, Praise and Worship at 8:15 and the sermon began at 9, we got out of church at 11:15, hailed a cab and came straight home so we would be here when ya'll called ya'lls moms'' Cheyanna explained as she handed them this mornings program upset they had been doubted
''Wow ya'll are in church for 4 hrs!!'' Lois exclaimed ''We were there for maybe an hour''
''There is not a baptist priest alive that will let the congregation out in under 2 hrs'' Marcus explained. ''well since we are all here lets call, that way we can eat some time today''
The group called both Moms on 3-way, they figured that if they called that way they wouldn't have to have the same conversation twice. Once both Moms were on the phone the group started talking a mile a minute and all at once. They had to be reminded several times to wait thier turn but that lasted only a short while before they were all talking again. The call lasted about 2 hrs. Before they got off the six promised to call every Sunday.
The group just kind of stood around looking at each other for awhile not saying anything. All of the sudden Marcus mentioned that he could go for some Soul Food like his mama made.
Cheyanna said ''I'm not your mama but I make some pretty mean soul food''
The others were curious as to what soul food was, Carly explained ''theres really no way to explain it you just have to experience it.''
The 3 said they were interested, so everyone went and changed out of thier Sunday clothes and met in the kitchen. They were cooking in no time and a couple hours later they were finished.
Micheal, Lois and Johnny loved the food but still didn't understand why it was called Soul Food.
Cheyanna said ''The best way I can explain it is the way my ''big mama'' explained it to me. Soul Food is special because it comes from the soul, and is put together with love. Everyone comes together to prepare the meal and then everyone enjoys it together, the food brings the souls together''
''I like that'' Lois said ''I think every Sunday we should go to church, make our phone call and then have Soul Food''
''Sounds like a plan to me'' Carly said
The others agreed. And so began a tradition that would last a lifetime.
