The Wonder Years ~~ Chapter 7

May 27, 2004

Sonny sat on his bed and watched Cheyanna put on her make-up and curl her hair. He couldn't believe they were already graduating. It seemend like just yesterday they had met each other for the first time. Sonny chuckles as he thinks of that first day.

Cheyanna was watching him in her mirror remember whatever it is he was remembering and thinking how she was gonna miss the time the two spent together. In the past 3 yrs she had grown to really count on and love him. She was brought from her thoughts when he laughed.

"What are you laughing at?" she said looking at him in the mirror.

"Nothing querida, it was nothing" he said. Sonny moved to the end of her bed so he was sitting behind her. "you know mija I'm going to miss you. Who's going to go to the garden with me or to 22 West??"

Chey turned to look at him "i'm gonna miss you too querido. Its not like I'm never going to come back and visit. You are my best friend and Carly is Marcus's. Your never getting rid of me, you stuck for life"

"I'm gonna hold you to that" he said hugging her

"I'm counting on that" she said giving him a quick kiss

"Why is that every time I come in here ya'll are hugging and kissing?" Carly asked jokingly as she came in theroom and sat down next to Sonny.

"She just can't seem to keep her hands off me" he said flashing her a smile

"Whatever" Chey said as she turned around to finish her make-up. Her and Carly were back to being friends but they were far from close.

"Hey beautiful you almost ready?" Marcus asked as he came into the room

"Yea I'm ready" Sonny said jokingly

"Whatever Corinthos" Marcus said as he walked over to Chey.

"I'm almost ready, I'm just gonna put my hair up and then change" she told him after she kissed him " Sonny would you be a doll and get my outfit from the closet please"

15 mins later Chey was ready, jsut as the four walked out into the living room so did Lois and Johnny. They stood there and looked at each other, not quite knowing what to say. The girls all had tears threatning to fall.

"Okay you guys ready to go??" Johnny asked

The graduation ceremony lasted forever. It was even more torturous because none of them sat together. Marcus, Cheyanna, Carly, Sonny and Johnny all graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Business Admin. Lois graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Psychology.

At some time during the ceremony each one spaced out and started thinking about the past 4 yrs.

Lois thought about how happy she and Johnny are and wonders how in the world they put up with the other four for so long. She new she was going to miss them but she couldn't wait to be in San Antonio and starting a new life with the love of her life. The only thing she regretted about her college experience is the lost friendship between her and Sonny.

Johnny looked back and thought of how he had grown. He remembers how when he first got there he was convinced he was in love with Cheyanna and that there would be no other. And then without notice he fell in love with Lois and couldn't be any happer. He also remembers thier first Valentine's Day and shakes his head "What a disaster!" he thinks. But even with all of thier petty differences and misery he wouldn't change it for the world.

Sonny tried to see where Carly was sitting and after awhile found her. Even from behind shes beautiful he thought. He was amazed at how you dind love in the strangest places--his bieng Carly. He remembers not liking Carly from day 1. She was always trying to keep Cheyanna the girl she used to be. But sometime in the last 4 yrs he had grown to understand where she was coming from, like her and then shockingly enough to him~~love her. He knew one day he would have to tell her, but today was not the day.

Carly could feel Sonny looking at ther and began to smile. She felt truly blessed to be loved by him. Even though he hadn't said anything yet, she knew. The only thing she regretted about college was that her and Cheyanna had drifted apart. She hoped that before the good byes were said that she and Chey would be back on the road to regaining thier friendship.

Cheyanna sat there and thought of all the good times they had expierenced in the last 4 yrs, from the drive to NY with Carly to spending time with Mrs Corinthos to falling in love. She thought about the friendships that she had forged with her roommates and hoped that they were strong enough to last a lifetime. She wishes that she and Carly could go back to the way things were. Chey wipes the tears from her eyes, she misses her childhood best friend, the one that convinced her to come to NYC, the one that was always there for her. But as much as Cheyanna misses the past she can't wait for the future. A future with Marcus at ASU. Chey knows that starting on Sunday the group will begin the next part of thier life but she knows they will always have "New York".

Marcus easily spotted Cheyanna in the crowd of people. His heart went out to her when he saw her wipe tears away. He desperately wanted to make everything okay for her, he never wanted her to cry again. He was glad to have her as a part of his life. He didn't know love could be like this until he met Cheyanna. He was truely blessed. He couldn't wait to go to ASU, it was gonna just be them. He hoped then he could get her to fall in love with him. Little did he know she already had. As much as he was ready to move on he was gonna miss his roommates and his best friend, he hoped thier friendship could withstand time and distance.

The group managed to make it through the ceremony alive. They were all happy it was over but sad at the same time. This was the beginning of the end. After the ceremony the group had plans to go to Bensonhurst for a small celebration. The group thought it was just going to be Mrs. Corinthos and Mr & Mrs. Cerillo. What they didn't know was that Mr & Mrs Johnson, Mr & Mrs Benson, Mr & Mrs. Fleming and Mrs Taggert were gonna be there too.

The ride up to Bensonhurst was quiet and somber. Johnny drove and Lois sat up front with him, on the next seat Marcus sat with Carly and the last row was Sonny and Chey. Everyonce and awhile Chey would sit forward and wrap her arms around Marcus' neck. This would be the groups last dinner in Bensonhurst for awhile. As they got closer to Sonny's house they forced themselves to cheer up, little did they know the surprise they were about to get.
